The problem
Many distilleries already return some dunder to fermentation as backset. Salt build-up limits how much they can reuse, so fresh water is used for molasses dilution instead.
Benefits
- Less fresh water for molasses dilution
- Less vinasse sent onwards for treatment
- Steadier fermentation conditions
Application
Desalts the backset stream before it returns to fermentation.
