Closing the water loop in rum distillation

For every litre of rum, a distillery produces many litres of vinasse, known as dunder in the Caribbean, and many distilleries sit where fresh water is precious. Danu Water turns vinasse and cooling blowdown into reuse water, potassium fertiliser and more biogas.

In an exemplar distillery

  • 55%less fresh water
  • ~80%less effluent discharged
  • ~1,400 tpotassium fertiliser a year
  • +10%biogas from protected digesters

These are jobs, not a fixed line-up

The applications illustrate the jobs that are often needed in a distillery. In practice, we design around each site's own combination of problems. Where and how much water we take, and where we return it, is up to you. Often a single unit can do several jobs, or a pair are designed to work together.
