Mining & mine water
Mine water for reuse
From perpetual treatment cost to water resource.
The problem
Large volumes of mine water are pumped and treated, at closed sites in perpetuity, and then discharged with nothing recovered. Some waters are chloride-dominated, others sulphate-dominated from pyrite oxidation, so one fixed design does not fit all.
Benefits
- Turns a perpetual treatment cost into a water resource
- Tolerates variability between and within sites
- Copes with solids and scaling minerals that foul reverse osmosis
Application
Sits after conventional mine water treatment, removing the dissolved salts that stop mine water being reused. Below about 10,000 µS/cm treatment is straightforward; higher salinities are handled with multiple units, a bespoke high-salinity design or blending.
