Municipal effluent to cooling water

Keep drinking water for drinking.

The problem

Every cubic metre of drinking water used for cooling is unavailable for homes and new development. Treated effluent is a steady local supply, but dissolved salts and hardness stop it being used for cooling.

Benefits

  • Frees potable supply for homes and growth
  • Recovered salt turned into the acid and base the rest of the plant uses
  • A mineral-rich brine for recovery, towards near-zero liquid discharge
  • By-products such as lime sludge can go to local farms as agricultural lime

Application

Conventional pre-treatment prepares the effluent. Danu Water removes the dissolved salts and turns the recovered salt into reagents, producing reclaimed cooling water and recovered minerals.
